Rare carved wood mantel painted in the imitation of marble and gilded.
Italy, Mid 18th century
The curved belt presents a frieze of stylised leaves and is adorned at its centre with an Antique-style medallion profile in natural wood, flanked by foliage scrolls forming cartouches, and flowering vases. The jambs are adorned with two stylised chimeras perched on intertwined vines emerging from large acanthus leaves and meeting at the centre of the belt.
