Gilt wood console table - Attributed to François de CUVILLIES (1731-1777)

A rectangular shaped console table, in richly and finely carved openwork gilded wood. Entirely carved on three sides.

The large belt with a central cartouche decorated with trophy instruments, flanked by trelliswork enclosing flowerheads, rocaille motifs and floral foliage. The front feet headed with women's heads and the posterior feet headed with impressive heads of Medusa, all remarkably sculpted. The cabriole legs ending with doe hoof, and are joined together by an X-shaped stretcher, in the center of which two putti play, surrounded by four stylized chimeras. Molded top in green Genoa marble.

Epoque middle 18th century. Top changed.
