Piedmontese gilded wood console table attributed to Giampietro Baroni di Tavigliano (1705-1769)

Mid 18th century, Circa 1750-1760

Carved and gilded wood. The waistband is adorned with a central rocaille cartouche. Two inverted C-shaped curved legs adorned with stylised foliage and garlands of flowers, joined by a brace centred on a large openwork rocaille motif. Moulded top in Breche d'Alep marble. Original gilding.

A console of a very similar design, illustrated in the reference work Il mobile Piemontese nel Settecento by Roberto Antonetto (p.219), is attributed to the architect G.P. Baroni di Tavigliano (1705-1769), a disciple of Filippo Juvarra.
