Garniture of three vases - Attributed to Francesco Antonio Franzoni (1734-1818)

European alabaster with chased ormolu mount on a white marble base.

A native of Carrara, sculptor and restorer Francesco Antonio Franzoni set up a workshop in Rome in 1760, specialized in the restoration of ancient Roman sculpture. He was famous for his high-quality vases, often crafted from rare fragments of ancient stone.

He was one of the main artists who worked on the animal room commissioned by Pope Pius VI for the Museo Pio-Clementino in the Vatican. He also worked for the same Pope's sister, Giulia Braschi, at the Palazzo Braschi in Rome.
