Pair of Louis XVI armchairs
Stamped by Sulpice Brizard, master in Paris in 1762
Circa 1775
This pair of Louis XVI armchairs has very high quality carving and is adorned with numerous ornamental motifs typical of the period, such as piastre, raies de coeur and acanthus leaves.
This model is identical to a suite of four armchairs by Brizard, also in gilded wood, now in the Musée du Louvre in Paris (donated by Isaac de Camondo in 1911, Inv. OA 6549-6552).
