This beautiful pair of pedestals is a perfect example of the revival of Boulle furniture in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Cabinet-makers took up André-Charles Boulle's ornamental repertoire in their creations, as here with the portraits of Louis XIV and Marie-Thérèse of Austria flanked by trophies of arms inspired by the famous cabinets in Drumlarig Castle in Scotland and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
